Tamil Alu Curry ( as my daughter calls it ! )
Ingredients
Potatoes - 4 medium sized
turmeric - 1/4 tsp
chilli powder - 1/2 powder
asafoetida ( hing ) - a pinch
salt to taste
oil - 2 tbsp
mustard - 1/2 tsp
urad dal - 1/2 tsp
Method
1. Boil the potatoes in the pressure cooker.. Cut the potatoes into 2 & place in the cooker with a little water & give 3 whistles. Open the cooker after the pressure releases. Cool slightly & remove the peel. Chop roughly & keep aside.
2. Heat the oil in the kadhai, add the mustard & let them splutter. Now add the urad dal & the hing & stir for a minute. Immedietly add the pototoes & stir them gently. Add the seasonings, turmeric & salt. Cook for 8- 10 minutes, on slow flame, stirring them once in a while.
3. Add the chilli powder & fry for another 4-5 minutes .
4. Remove from fire & serve hot.
This a good combo with sambhar, kozhambu, rasam etc, etc. & rice.
Vengaaya ( onion ) Sambhar- Alu curry is most favourite & hot combo ever for most of us, Tamilians !!! Will put up the vengaaya sambhar up really soon.........
