Semia Uppama

A simple Semia( vermicelli) Uppama that my father loves so!

Ingredients

semia/vermicelli - 2 cup
sour curds - 2 tbsp
oil - 1- 1 1/2 tbsp
mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
split urad dal - 1/2 tsp
chana dal - 1/4 tsp
dry red chillies - 2, broken into bits
some curry leaves
salt to taste ( 1/2 tsp )
boiling water - 1 1/2 cups

Method

1. Heat the oil in a kadhai. Add mustard seeds & wait for it to splutter. Add the urad dal, chana dal, red chilli bits & the curry leaves. Fry until the dals start turning golden.
2. Now add the semia ( vermicelli) & fry for a couple of minutes on low flame, stirring constantly until the semia starts turning golden at the edges.
3. Immediately add the hot water, curds & salt. Cook on medium flame until the water is all absobed & the semia is cooked.
4. Serve piping hot , topped with bit of asli ghee.
5. Tastes wonderful !

  1. I liked your recipes of semia and rawa upma. Any tips for making soft rawa idlis?Mine turn out very hard and don't rise much.
